The lasting effects of climate change are a challenge for humanity and more funding for developing countries is urgently needed on the path to sustainable development and climate justice, a global environment conference in India has been told.
Speaking at the World Sustainable Development Summit in New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said protecting the environment was not only something India had to do, but something it was committed to doing.
Human empowerment is impossible without a better environment, he said, and “the way forward is through collective rather than selective”.
In his address to the summit organised by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), an Indian research institute, he said development and nature went hand in hand and the environment was not only a global cause “but also the individual and collective responsibility of everyone”.
